Using Fine Art Prints to brighten your home- especially a small space, is genius! Whether you are a seasonal decorator and like to change your art out regularly or live in a small space and are not ready to invest in original artwork yet, using prints to decorate is the perfect way to dress up a small corner of your home! Here are a few tips for decorating that lonely dresser or shelf:
First, frame the print. Always. Getting your print framed is step number one. Typically artists will offer prints as an affordable way for collectors to have their art in their home without the price tag that usually comes with purchasing an original piece. A frame will immediately add value to the print. There are dozens of places you can get your print framed affordably including craft stores and online framing services. Purchasing a print in a standard size (8x10, 11x14, etc.) will allow you to avoid needing to get a custom frame- thus cutting down on your costs. Pro- tip: Don't be afraid to set your frame on a shelf rather than hang it on the wall!
Second, Less is more. Pick the perfect spot and accessorize accordingly, but not too much. I have found the key to decorating a shelf or a dresser is to pick 2-3 of your favorite things to go with your print and overall design. Your favorite ring dish, a lamp, a stack of your favorite books to read at night, an heirloom photo of your grandmother at the beach, a jar of seashells from a recent trip to the coast- there's endless ideas when it comes to making the spot look perfect. The best part is you can always rotate out your favorite items based on the season or your mood!
Lastly, pick your prints. This is the most important step, as you want an overall cohesive look. Many artists design pieces within their collections to be displayed as a diptych (two paintings side by side) or even in a group of three! I have shown a few groupings of paintings I love here on the blog today. And as always, artists like myself would always love to help you pick a set for your home if you are stuck and need additional ideas!
